Demystifying Economics, The Student-Friendly Textbook, is designed specifically for pre-principles, introduction to economics courses. It covers most of the topics typically taught in a traditional principles course, but in a non-technical, reader-friendly format. It would be ideal for a general education course for non-economics majors. Demystifying Economics is not intended to compete with the one-size-fits-all traditional, standard, 1,000-page principles textbooks. It is specifically designed for students who may not have strong math backgrounds, or the aptitude for understanding the technical language used in most standard principles textbooks. It is a special needs textbook, designed to give instructors an alternative to the standard principles textbook. Instructors who like to design their own principles course around a basic core text, that covers the basic essentials, will find this book to be a good core to build on. The content of this book has been classroom tested over a period of many years in a variety of settings. Much of the material first appeared in the author s high school textbook, Understanding Economics, which was published by Random House in 1986. That, highly popular, book was used by more than 600 schools nationwide. This new, student-friendly, textbook is in a class of its own. It is expected to be used as a basic text in some principles of economic classes, where instructors want more control over the content of the course, as well as in pre-principles courses. Also, MBA programs, with students who do not have a strong understanding of basic principles of economics, will find this book ideal for refresher courses in basic economics.
