Review

We each must do our share in ensuring that future generations have safe and clean energy sources while not compromising our comfort or budget. GEO POWER shows how that is possible with ground-source heat pumps. With this book, my students and trainees are able to understand not only why geothermal can be used, but the scientific reasons and evidence for its effectiveness. And for homeowners looking for a safe and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, or businesses needing to reduce operating costs, this is the right book at the right time. --Professor Lawrence A. Muhammad, IGSHPA Certified Trainer and Accredited InstallerGeo Power is especially designed to help spread the word about ground-source or geothermal heat pump systems (GHPS) to the world, and it does an excellent job of explaining how a GHPS works for health, safety, heating, cooling and hot water. I recommend reading Geo Power to understand the most energy saving comfort system for your home or commercial property. --Gerald R. McClain, Distance Learning Coordinator, International Ground Source Heat Pump Association

This is a very good book for someone wishing to better understand what geothermal exchange heating and cooling is and how it will greatly reduce the cost of heating and cooling a building. Written for the homeowner and incorporating the author's experience in going to geothermal, it is a pleasant read and is quite comprehensive. Not well understood and sometimes mistaken for geothermal electric power---which uses heat generated naturally deep within the earth for electricity generation---geothermal exchange heating and cooling (or use of ground source heat pumps) will significantly reduce the amount of energy used for heating and cooling for most temperate land areas. It is in much greater use in northern Europe, Canada, and elsewhere than in the U.S.A. Note: an excellent supplement to this book is the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) manual "Geothermal Exchange Heating and Cooling" which serves a comprehensive yet concise primer, primarily for the building owner seeking to reduce the heating and cooling energy costs for his/her building or the business person thinking of adding some aspect of geothermal exchange heating and cooling to his/her business line.

In my efforts to get understandable and easy to read information in the hands of consumers on green technologies, it is refreshing to see an affordable book come out on geothermal heating and cooling technologies. “Geo Power” is just that; affordable, understandable and richly illustrated. When I received my copy, the first thing that caught my eye was the great illustrations. From the basics of how geothermal loops go into the ground to the comparisons between a refrigerator and a heat pump, the pictures tell a thousand words.Don Lloyd’s book, “Geo Power” should be the first thing an individual considering geothermal should purchase to help them understand geothermal heating and cooling. I believe that after reading through its pages, it will become clear that geothermal heating and cooling is the best way to reduce energy consumption, reduce CO2 emissions, and increase our comfort in our homes and buildings, period.Jay EggEggGeothermal ConsultingGeothermal Writer/Expert/ConsultantCo-author of 2 geothermal books from McGraw-Hill

Good material written in a clear concise way. Definitely directed towards those in colder climates but the principles are explained clearly enough. It allowed me to learn enough to know that ground sourced heat pumps weren't for me but air sourced heat pumps may be useful for my location in rural Western Australia (hot & temperate climate). If you want to be able to understand the technology and be able to have a discussion with suppliers, then I would recommend this book.

Just what I was looking for. Great book. Lots of good information for the beginner as well as for those who are trying to get a more in-depth understanding of how to tweek and monitor the efficiencies of geothermal. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in geothermal.
